About Whirlow Hall Farm Shop

Whirlow Hall Farm Shop is the original outlet for produce from Whirlow Hall Farm. It was opened in 2005 by our current Farm Manager Will Willison, our aim is to supply quality products from Whirlow Hall Farm and give complete customer satisfaction.

The Pork, Bacon, Gammon and Sausages we have on sale are produced from the pigs in our on farm high welfare pig unit.  By high welfare we mean that the pigs have large, roomy pens to live in, when they are young they have a constant heat source to keep them warm and because pigs are such intelligent creatures they have toys to play with to keep them occupied!  Some of our pigs even get to express their natural behaviour by living outside in the specially built free range pig pens; they have complete freedom and can root for food in a relaxed manner.

We know each of the pigs on the farm individually, so we can offer complete traceability from any of the meat you buy from us, and because we keep a close eye on things, you are guaranteed that we will only supply meat that is of the highest quality and has excellent flavour.

The Sausages we sell are produced exclusively for us using only pigs from Whirlow Hall Farm, our time served, skilled butcher mixes the ingredients, fills and links the sausages  all by hand.  We have 5 different flavours to choose from including Tomato, Pork & Chive and Traditional Cumberland.

The Bacon and Gammons are traditionally dry cured, this means that the pork is hand rubbed with the salt cure and left to mature for 2 weeks, unlike some bacon and gammon which is soaked in and injected with a salt water solution, (this is why when you fry bacon you sometimes get a white watery fluid in the bottom of the pan, this is excess salt and water leaking out) our bacon will not be over salty and will always taste great.

We have a selection of High Welfare Pork Leg Joints and Chops available and because of the way our pigs are reared and cared for they have a superior texture and flavour.

Eggs are a very popular item in the shop, some of our customers drive miles just for half a dozen!  We have 150 free range hens which in the summer lay up to 80 eggs each day.  The children who visit the farm collect, grade and box up the eggs ready for sale.

We also grow fruit and potatoes on the farm, Strawberries, Raspberries, Gooseberries and Blackcurrants are sold through the shop on a pick your own basis, the potatoes are harvested by the visiting children in September and October, packed into bags and sold in the shop.  We grow two varieties of potato, Estima a white skinned potato suitable for boiling or baking and Desiree a red skinned potato which is a good all-rounder.

We are also currently taking orders for New Season Whirlow Lamb

The Farm Shop is open Thursday to Sunday from 11am to 4pm.
